Fix Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Overheating Issue

Check for Updates

If it is reported by hundreds or thousands of users, then Samsung must have rolled out a fix. Secondly, due to incompatibility between apps and operating systems, this type of malfunction often happens and leads to major damage. Before it’s too late, let’s check for the updates.

Update Galaxy Watch 5:

Ensure the Samsung Watch 5 is at least 30% Charged or connect it to charger.

  1. Launch Wearable App on your phone to which Samsung Watch is paired and connected.
  2. Select Watch settings > Watch software update.
  3. If you find Home tab swipe to and select Watch software update or Band software update.
  4. Download and install update.

Update Apps of Galaxy Watch 5:

  1. Ensure the Watch and Phone are paired.
  2. Go to Galaxy Store on your phone.
  3. Tap on three horizontal lines (Menu).
  4. Select Updates.
  5. Select the Watch tab.
  6. Tap Update All.

Disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS

Wireless Services like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS run in the background in order to keep you updated with necessary notifications and details. Even if they consume a small part of Galaxy Watch 5’s battery, overall it will affect its performance and hence the system overheats upon continuous usage.

For a time or when not needed, turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS of Samsung Watch 5. Few services will be interrupted but this is strongly recommended.

  1. Go to Settings > Connections in Samsung Watch 5 and disable all of three services.

Disable Health Tracking

Samsung Watch 5 is primarily meant to track health and fitness and to do so, it uses multiple Sensors. We’d suggest you disable the Health Tracking Sensors to cut down the battery usage and ultimately to control the overheating issue of the Samsung Watch 5. Though there isn’t any direct way to turn off Samsung Health, however, try the workaround as mentioned below.

  1. Open the Settings app on your phone.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Find and open the Samsung Health app.
  4. Tap Permissions.
  5. Revoke all the permissions.

Avoid Using Always On Display

For ease of use, Samsung has designed Always On Display, you don’t have to press any button to check the time or notification. The display stays on with time and certain other features, which directly affects the battery all the time and overheats the system. Disable Always On Display, for some time and observe.

  1. Pull down the Quick Panel from top edge.
  2. Tap on Always On Display button to turn it off. It looks like a Watch.

Disable Voice Assistants

Voice Assistants like S Voice and Bixby always proactively respond to your commands. We don’t need to press any button to wake up S Voice or Bixby Assistant, however, this comes at a cost of continuous battery consumption. The more power it drains, the more it will overheat.

  1. Go to the Bixby Voice or S Voice in your Galaxy Watch 5.
  2. Tap on three dots.
  3. Turn Off Voice Wake-Up.

Check Storage Space

Get rid of unnecessary apps and data from Samsung Watch 5. The Watch is not designed to store blocks of data, but only the necessary ones. Here’s how to free up storage space in Samsung Watch 5.

  1. Launch the Galaxy Wearable app in your phone.
  2. Tap About Gear or About Watch.
  3. Select Storage.
  4. Tap Clean Now.
  5. The system will give you a quick view of how much storage is consumed by apps, images, videos, etc.
  6. From there you can take action accordingly to delete the data.

Reset Watch

Galaxy Watch 5 keeps overheating and the battery draining issue is quite common, but if you still haven’t gotten a positive result after trying all the above workarounds, consider it a serious problem. The last but not the least solution is to reset the watch. Back up the Samsung Watch before proceeding with resetting.
