Fix Dark mode not working on Samsung Galaxy Phones

Although enabling dark mode is handy, there are instances on your Phone where transitioning from white to black fails. 1. Re-enable Dark Mode

One of the first things you should do is re-enabling the Dark mode on your Phone.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Display > Check the box at the bottom of Dark.

2. Disable Schedule Dark Mode

If dark mode on your Phone is turned on, but still, it isn’t working as expected, you might want to check that you haven’t scheduled dark mode. This aspect can cause the dark mode to turn on/off after a specific duration, making you confused that dark mode is not working on a Samsung phone.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Display.
  3. Hit Dark Mode Settings > toggle off Turn on as scheduled.

3. Disable Power Saving Mode

If Dark mode keeps turning on automatically, you may need to check if Power Saving Mode on your Phone is disabled. 

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Battery and device care > Battery > toggle off Power Saving.

4. Check Accessibility Settings

Intentionally or accidentally changing visibility enhancement in the accessibility settings can misguide dark mode on your Samsung phone. To prevent such possibilities, you need to verify the accessibility settings are configured accurately. 

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Accessibility.
  3. Choose Visibility Enhancements.
  4. Tick Default below Display Mode.
  5. Select Apply > Hight Contrast Theme > None.
  6. Disable the toggle next to the Color Inversion.

5. Revert to the Default Theme

Got stuck with the problem right after changing to the custom theme, consider switching back to the default settings could resolve the issue. Here is how you can do it. 

  1. Press and hold anywhere on the empty spot on your Home screen.
  2. Select Themes.
  3. Tap the Menu Icon > My Stuff.
  4. Choose Default > Apply.

6. Try clearing App Cache

A corrupted app cache is often a reason for various issues, including dark mode not working only in a specific app. You can clear the cache data for the problematic app. 

  1. Press and hold the problematic app icon.
  2. Next, tap on the Info Button.
  3. Select Storage. 
  4. Lastly, tap on Clear Cache from the bottom right corner.

7. Force Dark Mode in Apps using Developer Options

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Swipe and select About Phone.
  3. Navigate and choose Software Information> Build Number seven times. This will unlock the Developer options on your Samsung phone.
  4.  Now, head back to the main Settings page > Developer Options. 
  5. At last, swipe down and enable the toggle next to the Force Dark Mode.

8. Reset All Settings

If none of the solutions works, resetting your Samsung Galaxy phone to default settings can resolve the problem. 

  1. Go to the Settings App.
  2. Hit General Management.
  3. Swipe down to tap reset > Reset All Settings.
  4. Choose Reset Settings and enter your PIN and Password to proceed.
